The greatest discoveries of science have always been those that forced us to rethink our beliefs about the universe and our place in it.

About

Welcome to the official site for Ms. Giles Life Science Laboratory! We are at Central High School in Corinth, Maine, and are fortunate to live in a rural community in a region rich in diverse natural ecosystems.

In our classes, we will explore topics from various disciplines of life science, and the key real-world concepts that are important to each.  We will also contemplate our role and function as living organisms that have a lasting and influential presence at both local and global levels.

Project-Based

Many of our learning activities and assessments will be project-based. This method of inquiry and knowledge demonstration promotes student choice in content focus, as well as in HOW you best learn and demonstrate knowledge.  It will also encourage you to show off your strengths, whether it be art, writing, presentation design, online platforms, or any other variety of skills.

Our Classroom

The focus here in our classroom is to work together to reach the educational goals of the class.  This means that I, as the teacher, have the responsibility of finding valid and engaging ways to share information with you.  You, as the student, have the responsibility of helping to create a safe, interactive and fun classroom environment for yourself and your peers.

What this means, day-to-day, is that we develop and maintain an atmosphere of respect and inquiry, and where we are all accountable for our own success.  It really comes down to three simple classroom rules:

  • Respect others

  • Respect my school

  • Respect myself

By doing these things, we can make this a place where everyone can succeed, AND enjoy the process of learning!

RSU 64 provides a safe, respectful and positive learning environment that supports life-long learners who leave our schools college and career ready.
